How stiff is it ?
Remember the big F1 "floppy splitter" controversy in 2010 ?

Just ran across this and thought I would comment. I currently work for a race team here in NC (we go round and round really fast) and have a bit of experience with the Tegris splitters, as that's what we run on all of our cars. We run a 1/2" (.466"-ish thick) material. It's pretty light, machines real easy, and is pretty flexible. That said, there are pros and cons to those properties.
The flexible part is great, however, depending on how you mount your splitter (we use counter-bores with recessed hardware and sometimes caps) and how much you are flexing them, you may have a tendency to delaminate the Tegris. But there are ways around that too, depending on the rules for the class you will be racing. The machinability part is fantastic, obviously. Million clever ways to mount a splitter made from this material. The light weight factor is obviously fantastic! But... like everything that is light-weight and cool, there is a price to pay for this material. $$$ Would I run it on my 911? YES! If it's available in something thinner. Not sure it's available any anything less than 1/2". Fantastic material for splitters, though. Last edited by scootermcrad; 05-29-2014 at 09:55 AM.. |

I used 6mm ABS and am pleased. Easy to cut, drill, shape and glue. A 60$ sheet makes two of them. It wont ever delaminate. Not the lightest but not more than 20lbs for the whole thing.
Having trouble posting pics from the mobile....
