Cross Post - BBS RS Widened Race Wheel?

Hi,

I asked this on the regular 911 board;

Is the BBS RS a good candidate for widening. I have been looking for wider wheel without much luck., except for BBS Motorsport = $$$.

I have been thinking about using BBR RS wheels that are 16x8/9, using the the 9's in the front and widening the 8's to get something like a 16x11. This will be a track/autocross wheel. Hopefully used as a set of race wheels in the next two years.

Any thoughts?....As the BBS RS is not considered a race wheel, it has been mentioned in another thread that it may be stronger than the BBS Motorsport wheels. Heavier is OK.

I have been racing an exclusive track RSR for over a year now with 2 sets of BBS RS wheels where I did exactly what you are thinking off with 10" at the front and 12" at the back. I have not had any problems thus far!

Thanks for the help. That car of your looks great. I have found that I can get shells from Mirage.

The prices for these wheels are all over the place. anywhere $600-1500. Found a bunch for sale on the VW sites. Thanks again.

Jae Lee at Mirage did my RS rims a few years ago.
The BBS RS is a 16 inch rim but Jae converted it to a 17 inch wheel.
Mine are 17x14 and 17x12.
I've run Hoosiers on the track and did the Targa California on street tires with these rims with no problems.
I was able to get new BBS RS hardware/bolts from this company.

My only BBS RS 17 inch wheel photo.

I have another set of BBS RS 16s I might convert to 17 inch for my Turbo Look.

Very, very wide tires!

I contacted Mirage about parts for the conversion. About 220 a shell. I am looking fro BBS RS wheels. Seen a few, just have to be patient.

I have a set of RS's (8's and 9's) and I need to narrow the 8's about 1/2". Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket wheel halves for track use? Ted posted a place where he got new hardware and they also sell RS wheel halves (not OEM).
