Fire.....to Track Car.
I'd like to get some opinions on converting my fire damaged car into a track car. The fire started in the garage and then caught the car on fire. The 3.0 engine and trans have been rebuilt and the car was recently converted to the Bitz Kit. The majority of the damage is superficial to the exterior and also with most of the new electronics burned above the main area of the engine.
The buy back price is not bad (opinions on value?) and I've done quite a bit of fabrication work in the past. So.....the labor is cheap. I'm fairly new to 911s and what I'm don't know is what all I can sell from the car to offset the cost of building it into a track/race car. I financed part of my e30 M3 race car by selling a lot of the parts I pulled off the car. I'm thinking about going with fiberglass panels for the build of this car if I choose to go down that path. Any general thoughts or opinions are welcome..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Two weeks before the fire. ![]()

Thats such a bummer about your fire
![]() I think you could sell alot of your stock suspension components and brakes, as well as interior bits, seats & door panels, so long as they are still in nice shape. Even go as far as the front fenders and hood if you want to go to fiber glass. This will all help to offset the cost a little but swapping fenders properly won't be cheap. I wonder if you may be better off selling the car as is and buying a track ready car, maybe you could even find a trade deal? I'm curious would you be willing to sell the car as is right now?

I already have an e30 M3 race car for track use that has to be trailered. So building a track car only is probably not something I need/want to do right now. I was thinking it may be a fun DE car that was still street legal.

Yesterday I thoroughly went through the receipt folder I got with the car putting all of the receipts in chronological order and came to realize the car only has about 55k on it. When I bought it I assumed it was 155k since the odometer is only a 5 digit one. I never directly asked the question to the previous owner. The other thing I came to realize is that the engine and trans only have about 4k miles since being rebuilt (about $15k in receipts). I had pretty much decided to let the insurance company haul it away.....now I'm not sure.

Go for it. The insurance company is not going to give you the value for the motor and trans. With a fresh rebuild it would make a great hot rod or race car. Was it rebuilt as a 2.7 or 3?
I restored a burned RSA to a race car that started worse off. The whole electrical console is replaceable on that side, an engine harness will handle most of the issues, you're going to need an intake and distributor top, the body should be fine. The interior will come out anyway. It will be some work and some $$... Or put it up in classifieds you'll get some bites pretty quick.
