1987 928 S4 51k miles Black/Black Beauty!

1987 Porsche 928 S4 - 51k Original Miles, Black on Black example that remained in Southern California until 2016 when it was brought to Texas where it stayed till I recently transported it here to Portland Oregon. It’s had three enthusiast owners from new. First owner was with the car for 7 years, second owner a close friend of the Porsche family was with the car for 22 years, and the last for the past few years adding less than 1000 miles. During this recent period $36,000 dollars of sorting (with invoices) has taken place. Copies of all the service invoices, recent Carfax, and Stamped Maintenance Manual going back to 1987 are all included. Power is sent from the 5.0-liter DOHC V8 to a rear-mounted 4-speed automatic transaxle producing 316 horsepower. As a grand touring designed super car the automatic transmission was designed to compliment the overall driving experience envisioned by Porsche. Recent work includes replacing fuel injector control module, replacing the entire fuse relay board and cleaning all contacts, new timing belt with a water pump service, torque tube rebuild, Gregg Brown alternator, new ground straps, fresh brake and transmission fluid, OEM Air filter, HVAC actuators, and a transmission leak was also recently resolved. Recent work performed at Eurocar-Werks, Sleepers, and Marque Motors, all well respected Porsche repair facilities. In addition a new battery was recently installed, new water pump, timing belt, tensioner roller, transmission modulator valve, new distributor cap and rotor, new plugs, a brake fluid flush, and synthetic oil change at Sleepers in Costa Mesa with an invoice totaling $11,078.69. They also did the pre-purchase inspection as well as the automatic transmission filter and fluid change. A New Steering rack has also just been added as has a New set of BF Goodrich G-Force tires that now have about 1000 miles on them. Newer Lloyd mats protect the carpeting which is still in excellent condition. The dashboard & instrumentation is flawless. The factory 4-spoke steering wheel was recently recovered by Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. LEDs have replaced interior lamps, brighter and whiter! Front and rear factory optioned air conditioning is functioning correctly and blowing cold thanks to a recently replaced compressor. The car is 100% stock minus the addition of Porsche Cup 1 wheels and a Pioneer Bluetooth Stereo. This first-year S4 is sold with a factory tool kit, complete books including a stamped maintenance book, owners manual and extensive service records back to New. A clean Carfax and clean Texas title are included. The all original paint has been verified by a Paint Meter - minus driver’s side front fender which has been repainted although undetectable without metering. The rest of the paint all meters as factory. The paint has never been taken down and shows remarkably well, clearly this car has been stored inside and had lots of love. Factory side moldings retained along with 928 S4 script on the rear end. Black Leather Power Seats include optional lumbar support. Instrumentation includes a 180 mph speedometer, a 6-digit odometer showing just over 51k original miles, a Pioneer DEH-80PRS stereo has been installed which includes Bluetooth capabilities making hands free phone conversations a snap. Records include a Porsche maintenance book with stamps from new through 1992. From 1993 and onwards all work is documented with reputable independent Porsche garages. All invoices go with car as does the original owners manual, maintenance book, electrical wiring cards, two factory ignition/door keys, original 3 wheel lock keys, spare tire, tools, docs, literature, etc are all included in the sale. Option code descriptions below. For the full list of optional codes with descriptions see the photos. $35k Thanks!

I recently purchased this car on Bring a trailer - BaT. As you can see from the auction link below including the 5% BaT fee, transportation costs from Texas to Oregon, $5000 at Marque Motors, etc i’ve invested over $36k. Although driving this car is a surprisingly excellent experience, especially on the open roads, i’ve decided to sell so i can go after a 993. If you have a clean, well loved 993 six speed coupe i’d be interested in a possible trade.

Two of the many positive comments from BaT auction:
I know this car well as I am still kicking myself for not buying it from Auto Kennel before the current owner. It was the finest example of a well maintained S4 I had seen up to then and since. I ultimately had to settle for a lesser car. The gaps are even, the wheels were untouched and the interior was near perfect. A much loved by its previous owner car. If you are looking for a collector grade S4 this is it.

I know this car personally as I helped the widow sell the car to the current owners. The 2nd owner of this car was a long time local PCA OCR (Orange Coast Region) member here in SoCal. He participated in a lot of the tour events. He also had BMW motorcycles and a very early ’65 911, which we also helped sell. Recently, we sold the last of his toys, which was a 2001 996 Turbo. He was a wonderful person who passed away too soon (in his 60’s). This owner was close family friends with the Porsche family. His uncle was the primary importer of Porsches for the San Diego area in the 60’s. When Ferry Porsche would come to visit, he would stay with their family. In the late 80’s, while touring the factory, he was captivated by the 928 and had to have one. However, he would have to wait until the early 90’s when he found this car for sale by the original owner who was also a local Orange County enthusiast. I kicked myself for not keeping this car for myself. I ended up purchasing an ’84 928 that I love, but this one was far more sentimental. I wish the sellers GLWTA and hopefully the next owner enjoys this car as much as my dear late friend Charlie did.
