Cayenne tie rod broke
The left tie rod on my 2019 Cayenne (35,000 miles) broke after driving about 1 mile after startup. It had been sitting for three weeks and when I pulled away from the curb, there was a vibration as if I was driving over bumps that stopped after a few feet. I pulled over and checked the wheels but everything felt OK. After about 1 mile, as i was driving up a hill after a sharp left and then a right turn, the rod broke, locking the left front wheel at an angle. The dealer is still assessing the damage. It said that the steering mechanism might be damaged. The tie rod has to come from Germany. I don't recall hitting a pothole or curb that might explain the damage. It was fine when I parked and three weeks later without driving this happened.
I am concerned that everything be repaired, what else might be involved? |

I have never seen a tie rod break without some sort of pretty serious impact. If other damage is done, it is the usually the result of that impact...and seems like it would be relatively obvious.

perhaps an unauthorized trip? - kind of a "risky business" thing? - any water damage?
