Bonnet/Hood release cable.

I have a 2004 Cayenne S 4500. The bonnet/hood release cable needs replacing. I have removed the lever and the trim to get at the internal end of the cable. I have removed the lever bracket (the bit which holds the cable end had broken) I have removed the cover panels around the engine and undone the cable at the join, and the cable from the lever to there is perfect. The front cable is the problem. I presumed that the plastic cover at the front which surrounds the lock would unscrew and lift off (as with a golf) to get access to the latch, but I have undone all the screws and it doesn't move. I can get at the bolts which hold the latch and have undone them so you can move the lock, but as there is an emergency cable attached as well, you can't lift it enough to get to the cable ends. I presume that now I have detached the front cable and removed any securing ties and clips, I will hopefully be able to swing the latch up enough to get at the cable end? Am I correct?

I would be able to lift the latch up to connect the new release cable, but the electric cable to the 'bonnet open' warning switch is so tight that you can't lift the latch up enough to attach the cable. I need to disconnect that, but the problem is that I can't even see the connector let alone get to it! Any suggestions?!
