Cayenne sunroof wind deflector.
The wind deflector on my 2009 Cayenne's panoranic roof has decided not to close. This creates a lot of wind noise. All the other sunroof functions seem to work.
No local Porsche dealer, and no local Porsche indy, so I hope somebody else may have had this problem and can point me in the right direction.

Does it not operate by the glass rails moving forward and pushing it down? I guess a better question is which sunroof? (Small moon roof, or panoramic one)

Panoramic. I can't find anyone local to work on it, so Saturday I'll drop it off at the Porsche dealership 70 miles away.

stealthn is asking if its the regular size cutout sunroof, or the full roof size (Panoramic) sunroof thats the full width of the roof.

Yes, even though I can't spell, I thought I answered that question. It's the huge, overly complicated one.

Update:
Porsche dealership recommends replacement of entire panoramic roof assembly for a cool $12k. I wonder if they have one in stock. I need a plan B.

Unreal!
Just don’t open it, there saved you $12k… It doesn’t make sense it can’t be fixed, it’s mechanical right? Seems like the typical response of “replace it as we don’t know how to fix it”. I’ll have to see how mine works as I can’t think it’s that bad.

😂😂
Ive had 2 cars with sunroof trouble, and that was my solution as well. The cost to fix simply outweighed my desire to have a working sunroof. To this day, whenever I open my perfectly working sunroof, I think that its just a matter of time. |

I agree, but it sometimes opens itself. That's what happened this time, and now it won't fully close.

I totally get it. I’ve been in that situation myself. But not on a Porsche.

So I checked mine (Macan) and its pushed down via the actual sunroof closing (friction compression). So I would assume its spring loaded to raise and that may be what the issue is, or their maybe something in the track or underneath the bars to compress preventing it from going down, thus stopping the sunroof from closing.
Can you fully open it and standup in there and have a look? Here is the sunroof pressing on the deflector rails to close. ![]()

Thanks for the pic. I tried to look but I can't make heads or tails of it.
The dealership "tried" to get the deflector fully closed but was unsucessful. It does not leak water but it does still have an air leak noise. I really don't want to open it for fear I won't be able to get it closed again. I wrote them a bad eval on Porsche service. To top it off, yesterday I got a CHASSIS SYSTEM WARNING and a red emblem on the dash, which i guess is for the PDCC. Crap. I have to go to Atlanta in 2 weeks, maybe I will drop it off at one of the dealers there and hope somebody steals it.

so porsche put that nice fabric deflector on the pano sunroof but a cheap little metal one on the small sunroof? - my wife's 14 ford has a fabric one and it is way quieter than the metal one on my car - but her's is also a big sunroof - can they not put the fabric ones on smaller sunroofs?

fabric must have come later than 12 then - and i see stealthn has a macan anyway - can you just remove the deflector? - i'll check mine today and see what actually holds it to the car - might be a case of removing some screws or maybe drilling a rivet to remove it

The wind deflector needs to lay perfectly flat to stop wind noise.

ok - evidently i'm getting old and can't remember which car has what - the small metal deflector i mentioned is actually in my 928 not the cayenne - the deflector in the cayenne is even smaller and plastic - it barely sits above the roofline when "up" - no wonder it doesn't quiet the wind - but it does look pretty easy to remove

Try opening the sunroof just a little bit, and close it again.
Keep trying that a few times.... I just bought a 2008 Cayenne Turbo, and the wind deflector remained open for 4 days. I couldn't even find the hole to use the manual crank, which is in the bottom of the lower glove box. I ran the battery down just trying to find ways to close the roof. After replacing the battery, I tried the sunroof again... Opened it just a tad, then switched it to close... IT CLOSED after a couple of tries. Pfeew!
