Oil drain and radiator cooling fan run-on fault, '06 S
Two questions, first one, does this look normal, I'm wondering if this engine oil drain has a sealing washer stuck in there, or if it's supposed to look like this?
![]() 2nd question, cooling fan started running on, eventually getting worse until it wouldn't shut off ever, so pulled the fuse. What are the options now as it seems to be a common problem? Don't want to buy a whole fan assembly because of a bad sensor. |

Looks like a sealing washer to me, is a pick and gently see if it prys off, gentle of course.
I’ve never had the issue on my 06, maybe a faulty sensor.

What @Determined said, looks like a typical drain plug crush washer.
There are failure modes (been there, done that) where the fan loses its feeble mind, tachs up to hovercraft setting, and promptly sucks the battery dry, while the ECU is blissfully unaware of what's going on. If the fan continues to spin after you've pulled fuse ten (a ten amp fuse that supplies power to the fan control circuit and bits and bobs in the evap system) in the e-box, the fan has gone south. When debugging this, be aware that the ECU doesn't appear to actually monitor the fan; the fan gets unswitched power via fuse one (main fan) or two (A/C), and both fans get control voltage via fuse ten. The remaining lead on each fan goes to the ECU, which apparently expects to see +12 on the line which tells it that there's integrity in the control circuit, and it then does some sort of PWM dance to supply ground on those lines in order to modulate the speed of the fan. |
