Cayenne will not stay running

2013 Base Cayenne 3.6 L

I had a CEL so I plugged in my D7 scanner. There were codes about KAM . So I figured that it was a bad battery considering that it had the original battery from 2013 and this is 2024. Wow 11 year old battery.

I don't know why I did the next step but I did. I started the engine, and ran the scan again while it was running. After the scan was done I cleared the errors , while it was running. The engine misfires and stumbled a few times then finally shut off.

I figured the battery was bad so I replaced it with a DieHard same specs. But now when I crank it, It will run for 2 to 3 seconds and then shutoff. I can restart it and it does the same thing. I ran the scan for codes and it has no codes logged.

What is going on here? If I screwed up the settings hiw can I get them back to factory default? I did have the battery disconnected for about 3 hours while I went to get a new battery.

I am stressing and I need help

Sorry to hear, is your scanner capable of reading Porsche? Unless you are out of gas, not throwing codes when the car dies seems strange.

Recent gas fill up?

Yes, the D7 is capable of working with Porsche. It read the codes and I cleared them while the engine was running. I didn't mean to do that but I did. That's when the starting issue began. It has a half tank of gas.

I would suspect gas or the MAF, but with no codes pretty strange. I would disconnect the battery, give it a few and reconnect. Then see if you can pull codes, then try starting.

I've cleared codes on my 955 V8 with the engine running without causing any issues. never thought not to to be honest.

I know this doesn't help, much. Good luck figuring this out.

I used my XTool D7 scanner to retrieve the codes , which were DME 5668, TCM U040100, PSM 05220D, and IPC C12084.

When I cleared the codes , the car would not start. It took me 3 days to get it running again. It would start and run for 2 or 3 seconds then die. Finally I decided to hold my foot on the accelerator while starting it and each time I did this it ran for a little longer. I continued doing this until it would stay running. Then I let it run for a while so that it could relearn.

Since I had to start it like this several times , it did have a CEL again. So I scanned it again and selected to clear the codes and it did the same thing. It cleared the system parameters/ settings.

My question is why is the D7 clearing the settings when I select to clear the codes? I wouldn't think that it should do that.
I know that when you remove the power it will run rough when you first start it until it has had time to relearn . But this thing would not even run. I treated it like an old Carbureted engine, I held the throttle to the floor while starting it and each time it ran a little longer.

Hmmm, very strange, the first code indicate a DME memory fault so maybe that’s why it’s clearing everything, almost sounds like a wiring issue.

I thought MAF at first and it could probably use a cleaning. Do you use oiled filters or factory? I would disconnect the battery then undo and inspect the DME connections, check for water intrusion, oxidization, then button everything up and try again.

That’s about all I can offer without more info.

I had a similar hard start issue on my 06 Cayenne S, it was the vapor canister line on the right side of the engine below the fuel injector line (tube). I’ve never had an issue resetting codes while the engine was running.
