Prospective buyer has questions for V6 Cayenne owners
 

hello all,

My wife and I have been strongly considering a 2006 V6 Cayenne with manual transmission as her next vehicle. We've been researching it thoroughly and it looks to be a very reliable and practical car to get. Before we start digging deeper into the idea of Cayenne ownership we want to ask current owners what they think of the Cayenne V6.

My wife is not the lead-footed speed demon that I am. Her history of cars goes as such: 1990 Geo Tracker; 1995 Subaru Impreza; 1995 Subaru Legacy; 2004 Hyundai Elantra. ALL were 5 speed manual transmission and none of them were particularly fast vehicles. She still enjoyed driving them especially the Tracker and Legacy because of the all wheel drive.

Our questions are:

1) Has your Cayenne V6 been a reliable, pleasant vehicle to own?

2) Do you maintain your Cayenne V6 with factory/dealer parts? If so how has that experience been?

3) What tires are you using on your Cayenne V6 and do you ever have traction issues on or off road?

4) We don't mind the bad fuel economy but how far can you go on a full tank of gas?

5) Does the Cayenne feel more nimble than other SUVs you've driven?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for any help you can offer.

You will be so much happier . My wife and I
Went through the same thing . My buddy lent me his
Turbo for 3 days and we said. It would be crazy to buy the 6
Not to mention the interior perks. It like staying at the
4 seasons every time you drive.

My wife has never been happier with a car
And you know. When she's happy.
Your happy.

Also. Don't let the stupid electronics
Freak you out These trucks were
Designed to make dealerships money
Buy a durametric package and call it a day

They are awesome trucks

that's actually the most important thing right there. if she's not happy then i'm not happy.

i actually like the turbo but hate the transmission. the delay in the tiptronic drove me nuts when i test drove a Cayenne turbo. other than that i absolutely loved the little truck for what it was: an SUV that handled like a sports sedan.

I'll chime in and say that the Cayennes (any of them) you will have to work at it to have traction issues. -- the traction control is lightning fast.

beyond that, the 955S -driven softly- gets just about identical mileage as the base-6. ...the turbo is quite a bit thirstier than the S. ...and of course the S can get much worse mileage than the 6. ....but you'll be there sooner. ;)

Does the Cayenne perform well in snow? I've driven the Boxster in snow without a problem many times. I am wondering if the Cayenne feels heavy like a truck in the snow or handles more like a sedan?

What tires are the best all seasons for the Cayenne?

Last year in the massive DC snow storms
We were laughing as we drove around town.

It was great in the snow , but as said snow seemed
To really eat up some gas in off road mode.

Pirelli Scorpions on 18's, here. Great in the snow, but not a high-mileage (mpg) tire. ...I have a set of summer 19's which give better mpg. ...then again, maybe it's just an air pressure thing. ...maybe it's that cheezy ethanol fuel in the winter.
