Cheap! 2004 Cayenne S 70k bad motor, good price, is it a good buy???

looking at a good condition 2004 Cayanne S 70k with a bad motor for $2000 is this a good deal? I am very mechanical and own multiple porsche's I understand the costs of parts, and am capable of installing a replacement motor.

Are the 2004 Cayanne s motors reliable? What are their problems they come with? Also anyone price out used motors and what should I look for?????? Thank you

Are you sure there wasn't a zero missing? It'll probably be about 10K+ to totally rebuild it yourself and 20K at the dealer. I have a 04 Turbo and a 06 S and we haven't any engine problems, just other stuff going a little haywire with the 04. It must have had a heavy foot in it's life.

Hell, you could probably get an LS1 in there for $5k:-)

for $2000!!! your kidding right. that makes no sense at all.

If it is in fact $2000 you should have bought it without a though.

Source a good used engine for $3500-4500 and your set.

I have seen quite a few early V8 cayennes come up for sale with bad motors..... I have no experience with them but its annoying to see so many with engine trouble.

Porsche's excessively long recommended service intervals for the Cayenne can be thanked for much of the problems with Cayenne engines. Oil looks pretty bad after 20000 km! And people wonder why the cam position sensors and other internal parts get fouled causing the engines to go south. Owner indifference and neglect generally amplifies the negative effect of the long service intervals...

You certainly wouldn`t want to put much more then $6-8k into it, being a fellow Ontarian I have seen many early Cayennes for under $15k.

$2000 + motor work? It's terrible. Terrible. Please forward me the contact info for this travesty and I'll talk to the seller myself.

Forget repairing it. Buy it, part it out and make yourself $10,000 to $13,000. Sorry to say, there is way more money in parting Cayenne's and Boxsters than whole. Providing you have the space and time to do so.

I agree 100%. Part that thing out ". You'll make
A killing to purchase a later model in good shape.
