Just Purchased '06 Turbo S. Suggested replacements?
Long time pelican and 911 owner, but this will be my first cayenne. I found a nice used '06 Turbo S with 50K miles on it. I know there is a handful of suggested items on some models that strongly suggest replacement / upgrade, but what is necessary on the Turbo S? Educate me on this please.

Hopefully your coolant pipes have been updated already. If not, I would recommend doing it before they fail so it doesnt leave you stranded and add money to the cost for a tow as well as the starter doesnt like being soaked in coolant. It seems to me that transmission input shaft seals seem to go out shortly after coolant pipe failures because the coolant runs into the bellhousing, but I have no real research into if its just dumb luck or the coolant affects the seal. I wouldnt think so but... Shop around on pricing as its kind of all over the place on what people charge. Make sure they change the T fittings on the back of the engine at the same time. They are unique to the turbo and also fail. A turbo was just towed in today that they failed and werent replaced by another shop during the retrofit. Now, the intake has to come back off, new coolant again and a significant tow bill again. Also have the lower control arm rear bushings on the front axle checked. They get squishy and can cause premature tire wear. If you stab your brakes and can hear a clunk, they are bad for sure. Keep on top of the alignment. Your tires are expensive and abnormal tire wear will cost you alot more than the alignment. Just because it drives straight doesnt necessarily mean its good. Most other things that go wrong just fail and you might as well wait until they start to go bad before replacing them. I can say that if I owned one, I would service the transmission alot sooner than the recommended 140k mile interval. Valve body issues are fairly common, cause a really hard clunk when downshifting for "passing gear". If the rear drive shaft bearing is going bad, you will feel a vibration from under the center console around 30-40 mph. Keep your ears open for a faint "growling" noise from your engine, water pump bearings go bad and start to make some noise. Listen to it run while it is in your garage as the sound echos a bit and you can hear it better. If you have any questions please ask. I am a tech at a Porsche dealership and know these cars like the back of my hand. Dont get discouraged by anything that I have listed here. These arent bad vehicles. I would let my wife drive one across the country... Enjoy!

I really appreciate you taking the time for that reply. The price was right as I have been shopping for a turbo s for months now, and the current seller was unaware of the coolant pipes. If I discover the pipes have not been changed, what manufacture do you suggest I use for the replacement pipes? Sites? Pelican Parts looks like they sell the OEM parts.

Not sure if anyone else is making them. The ones in the link posted above are Porsche ones. The kit in the link above has a few extra parts in there than necessary but not a bad price. Some people remove the thermostat housing to make the job a little easier, and the parts to do it that way are also in the kit above. Anyone that has done this job a number of times is not going to take that step, but it seems the kit above is more geared towards a DIY approach. The way I check to see if they have been done is to go under the intake with a borescope and look at them. Not sure where you are located in Colorado, but if your close to colorado springs, you can swing by Porsche of Colorado Springs and I will check them for you.

Does this kit have the "T Fittings" you speak of that are unique to the turbo? 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S V8 4.5L > Engine > Cooling > ES#2594479 Cayenne Turbo Coolant Pipe Upgrade/Repair Kit - 94810605906KT1 I am unclear just from looking at the parts kit if they are included in this update package. ![]() Fwiw, after doing this update myself, I was impressed by how tough the OE plastic was. If I had it to do over, I would wait until it started leaking. That is, I can't imagine that these give no waning first - ie, that faint smell of hot coolant- long before any big spillage.
