What do I need to replace the main fuel pump? and what should I replace?
Guys, My main fuel pump went out... and I am having a hard time compiling a list of parts/materials needed to do the job. Some are saying you should also replace the aux pump... some are saying main only... some are saying replace fuel filter, some other fuel lines?

There are 2 in tank fuel pumps and a filter that is built into the "lid" of one of the tank access panels. There is also a 90* hose adapter that the parts supplier should know about. Replace the 2 pumps, filter and adapter.

I had this done "under warranty." Cost me only $583
I had both fuel pumps replaced back on 8/12/10 when my 2005 V6 only had 23,703 miles on the odometer.

My portion was $583.08 Interesting side note: After the repair, the gas gauge was terribly inaccurate. I returned to the dealer who stated "Tie wrap inside of tank came loose allowing hose to contact sender arm." I was still charged $40 for gasoline for the "fill test." The access for the fuel pumps are located under the rear passenger seats. Let me know if you need photos. The dealer had to cut the carpet to access the tank. |
You got what I mentioned except for the filter. The angle pipe is the adapter I mentioned. Regarding your $40 gas bill, I would certainly imagine they left the gas in the car for you so I don't see why this was an issue you thought necessary to bring up. I put gas in customer cars almost daily. They pay exactly how much I pump in. They get all of the gas that they pay for. No complaints yet. Some work, like yours, and alignments require the tanks to be filled. No big deal.

Well . . . not exactly.
Before I took the vehicle back to the dealer I topped off the tank to verify the gauge shoud read full, when it read 3/4 full I returned the SUV to the dealer to correct the problem. When they got the car it was full. They must have had to remove some fuel to work on the sender, but from a customer service point of view, the warranty work was not done correctly the first time. Yes I got to keep the gas, but a class act would have been to comp the "fill test." $40 isn't a lot, and for someone who has bought several cars from this dealer and spent a LOT of time in their service department, this would have been a small gesture on their part. Did the job yesterday and today... however; I actually did NOT use the 95562091100 angle pipe piece... where does it go? I didn't find anywhere for it.. All runs fine! (knock on wood***) Thanks, Paul |
