DIY Black Housing Headlights 955

Anyone of you attempt this? I saw a pretty good DIY on 6speedonline

anyone blackout the headlights? - Page 3 - 6speedonline.com Forums

Looks like they have it on lockdown. I think this will be my next DIY project.

well.. the initial cuts. they have to be perfect so it can go back together perfectly. its scary tearing into a $1000 piece.

Not really. You need to totally remove the outer lip. No way around it on the Cayenne. Still plenty of sealing surface after that lip is gone. (It will be like every other headlight housing on earth at that point)

did you scotch guard or rough up the surface before you painted it? or just cleaned well with alcohol?

Did not do any prep. I was working under the assumption that since the headlights were sealed that they were free from dust and oils. The plastic is kinda fragile so I did not want to risk trying to sand it.

This paint would also not get exposed to any elements other than heat and sunlight after painting since it would be sealed inside the housing again.

Well that's pretty cool.

I would think that using the body color in there would be especially sharp.

Still have the CTT and the headlights still look like the day I did them. Have never had an issue with them.
