Not a happy key
 

I have a small problem with my 2010 Cayenne. It's the key to the old beast and the body of the key has started to split. Without getting too enthusiastic I cannot see how the key body comes apart so I can rectify any faults and seal it up again. If any good folks could steer me in the right direction for disassembly I would be most grateful.

If you are referring to the key fob they are 2 parts and are glued together from the factory. If you pry the back off very carefully you might be able to get it apart without breaking it. There are fobs available on ebay for around $10 they are not Porsche parts but they work great.

they are not Porsche parts and I have found that they do not work great.

The one I got was off enough from the original that no OE parts are interchangeable, with the exception of the PCBA. I wanted to use one of those for just the plastic case, but the metal key portion could not be swapped w/o interference in multiple places. And, the button portion (the flexible plastic insert) pops out (again, poor precision).

Old thread... same problem. I picked up a clean key fob for my 2005 Cayenne. Over the years you can see the wear.

According to Island the only way to swap them is break the factory glued pieces. . . I’m worried I’ll end up destroying the functional yet worn original key in the process.

Any insight?
