$700 to replace my horn. Really??
 

Dealer wanted $700 to replace the horn on my 2009 Cayenne. Said the bumper cover needed to be removed. Soooo I did it myself in about an hour by removing the wheel, then taking out about 8 easy screws for the wheel well liner (but not the bumper cover). Is this typical dealer MO?

Good job, I typically do most of my work as well. Besides, it's more rewarding for me knowing I did it.

I suspect the dealer is aware of this method. Most shops quote book time but they dont have to follow that procedure. They still charge the book time though.

Too late to take photos but here is what I remember:
1. Remove wheel.
2. Refer to step 3 (Photo 3) in our host's article "Front Bumper Cover Removal". Remove the indicated screws. They are removed to loosen the wheel well cover.
3. As I recall there is one bolt directly above the wheel, two screws behind the wheel, and one screw in the fog light opening. To find these just start peeling back the wheel well cover until you meet resistance.
4. You can now access the horn.

Which wheel? US driver side / left, or the other side?

How common are horn failures on Cayenne's? I was looking at a carfax on a used 06 cayenne tt and it listed the horn being replaced 4 times.

Car has two horns. Low tone on left side, hi tone on right side.
So if replacing the low tone, for example, you remove the left wheel.

The hardest part, for me, in replacing the horn was disconnecting the connecter. I still don't know how it unsnaps. There is not much room around it.
