Cayenne off-road capabilities
 

Looks like they are actually taking this thing off-road. Anyone heard what they have done to make it capable off-road as well as burning up the asphalt?

I wouldn't really call this proof of off-road capability. Any car with diff lock or limited slip diff can end up in that position, and get out of it easily.

Look at the limited weel travel at the rear wheel of the Cayenne. A real 4x4 will have much, much more wheel travel.
The true test is not big, smooth boulders, but sharp and deep ditches. We frequently tour the wilder parts of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe with 4x4 vehicles, and from what I saw the Cayenne will not get very far in the bush.

I have an 05 Cayanne with 265 60 R18 Mickey Thompsons and the car rips the back country in California.

I take it in the canyons and the mountains and it has crossed rivers. The only problem is the clearance. It would be nice if it had about 3-6 inches more space below

the Gen 1 is a Touareg, they do quite well off road with the right tires and air suspension, reduction gears and diff locks. Approaca and departure angles are pretty impressive, but the wheel base is a big factor.

Gen 2 is for girls, same with the touareg.

I've can probably dig up the video when I had a V10 TDI Touareg with just T/A KO2 tires on a pretty challenging run with us. It performed really well just being in offroad mode. For the most part it kept up with our Land Cruisers, but didn't have enough droop.

The Macan suffers from this too. I tested out the droop on my macan in offroad mode too:

If you're going to tackle anything offroad, besides fire roads, first thing you should do is get some great all terrain tires or mud tires. They make a huge difference in offroad capability of the vehicle, and the ride is much more pleasant, especially since you'll be running at low PSI's (15-25). Depending on what you're trying to do, you may need to do a coilover conversion, as the air suspension has its limitations.
