Question 2008 Cayenne GTS keep showing tailgate is open

The dash is showing a car with tailgate in RED while I'm driving, it will keep beeping every time I take off from a stop, it is very annoying. Also I am unable to operate the rear windshield wiper or arm the alarm while the car has this error displayed on the dash. I did make sure the glass and the tailgate are both closed. Does anyone know why this RED trunk dash message displays and is it for the glass or the tailgate? I'm assuming it must be a broken or malfunctioning sensor that needs to be located, replaced, or fixed somehow.

The switch is part of the hatch latch and probably needs replacement, BUT it is interesting that there are other issues going on with the rear hatch, mainly the wiper. I am wondering if there are some broken wires in the rear hatch wiring. You may want to pull back the boot on the wiring where it comes out of the body and runs in to the hatch. Also check all fuses...

Harness

Check the rear hatch harnesses between the hatch and chassis. There is a left and right harness. The wiring inside over years of bending breaks. Remove the harness and repair the wiring or replace the harness. Most of the components rarely fail.
