Service check/model to avoid
I am getting ready to sell my Lexus GX470 so I can look for a 2008-2010 V6 Cayenne. Primary use: transport baby and her gear. So no need for S or Turbo (well, I need it, but wife doesn't). Plus, I want to avoid some of the problems that come with the V8.
Before I purchased my GX, I was able to see it's service history on LexusDrivers.com, where you can input any VIN and get its records (if it was serviced at stealership). Does Porsche have something like this? My goal is to buy one that has been well sorted. I am a car hobbyist, so I have access to dealer auctions where Cayennes are a dime a dozen, but these cars rarely come with service records. I know Carfax will sometimes show it, but would love to see some more official. I know it is asked a lot, and I have done research, but would models would you avoid and which would you take. What I am hearing: avoid 2004-2005. 2008-2012 are good. but I guess it really comes down to how it was maintained. THANKS!!! |

If you are planning to buy a Cayenne, it's best to begin to touch base with the independent Porsche shops in your area. Check and see if they know of any customers who are planning to upgrade, or sell their Cayennes. That way you can kill two birds with one stone, you will be getting a feeler on where to have your car serviced, and you will have the opinion of the repair shop who knows the car better than anyone else!

I think you are on the right path with 2008 and beyond 6 cylinder. I have an 08 6 cylinder and it now has 162,000 miles and has been the best SUV I've ever had my a wide margin.
Here is what goes wrong; drive shafts but you can get rebuilt ones from a firm called Vertex in FL, brake pads go a little faster than I would like due to weight of vehicle and same for tires. I had my blower go and a rather expensive cracked cam shaft that was causing idling issues but since fixed has driven like new. If you can find a low mileage 2008, 2009, 2010 you will not be disappointed. Regards, Matt

We saw it, loved the look/style, we got it, and we enjoy it. Driving is exactly what you would expect from a Porsche SUV - exciting and fun (not a soft ride, its a sports SUV). Behind the wheel is FUN and EXCITING - the car responds so well anywhere and it sounds like a powerful car should. Utilitarian also: it has lots of room in the rear end for gold clubs and much more. 4 People ride ok, no more! The large Porsche wheels stand out so nice in their design. Unfortunately, like German lux cars, they need to be cleaned regularly - they get black brake dust on them way too fast. Expect about 14 MPG (if you drive regular + some fun driving).
