QUICK advice will be GREATLY appreciated - About purchase an '08 Cayenne GTS from TX
Hey everyone,
I am just awaiting a pre-purchase inspection to be completed on a 08 GTS in Texas. Price is going to be just under 20K. The thing is, I will be selling an 08 Land Cruiser to make this work. I had a 79 911 sc that was quite reliable, durable for 9 years, and I am hoping that these Cayennes are going to be just as reliable. What I don't want to do is sell a Toyota that I could easily keep for 10 more years with basic maintenance, and get into something that will be constantly triggering codes and require thousands in regular maintenance to keep on the road. We do a lot of mountain trips and road trips of 2-4,000 miles and need that reliable factor. Cannot be breaking down on the way to Breckenridge in the middle of winter with my kids and wife in the car. Some real world advice on this will be critical to my decision today, as well as on fuel economy. The Land cruiser gets 300 miles on a 25 gallon tank! consistently. Would like a little better economy as well. Please advise. ![]()

Hello - I spoke to someone in the office about this and the biggest issue that the early Cayennes had were the plastic coolant piping that breaks - this was a known issue by the dealer and a free repair was offered to replace the plastic ones with metal piping. Make sure this was done during the PPI. The GTS also handles and feels more like a sports car than an SUV. We know people that take off off-roading all the time and never worry about reliability, but being a previous Porsche owner; I'm sure you know that they can be a bit finicky sometimes. If it was me, I would keep the Toyota ( I LOVE those cars) and it's such a bulletproof tank! Just my 2 cents...best of luck!

I prefer the turbo versions (both the turbo and turbo S) over the GTS for power and being in the mountains.
None of these sip fuel, they are HEAVY. The TDI is compromise for fuel economy, but still looks the part. If you are set on a GTS... don't drive the turbo.

Did you purchase? Curious how it went? I'm searching for a GTS and live in Texas, not much to choose from right now.
