I passed up on a ‘14 cayenne CPO. Good call?
 

Here’s the quick and dirty; 2014 Cayenne base, very well equipped sold by Porsche with a 2 year unlimited warranty.

Premium plus, pano roof, 20” RS Spyder wheels, many more options. 25000 miles (46000 Kms) accepted offer of $45000 CAD about $37000 USD

There were two big reasons I pulled out.

#1 I live three hours away from the nearest Porsche dealer. Even though I doubt the car would leave me high and dry, I had to take it in consideration, it’s an expensive tow bill. Also driving three hours to have a code figured out doesn’t make sense.

#2 And the biggest reason; the original owner changes vehicles as soon as the warranty expires, according to the service records, he did the first oil change at 8000 Kms and the second at (drum roll) 33000 Kms. That just scares the crap out of me. 25000 Kms between oil changes is pure negligence in my book. Yes, it was Moblile 1 Synthetic.

So, what are your thoughts? Good call? Over thinking?

Actually, 15,000 miles is NOT out of the norm given modern oils and engines. Most of the new cars use computers to calculate oil change intervals. It was likely ok. not saying it was ideal. On the interweb Porsche says 1yr or 10,000 miles (16K km) but I know my Dad's BMW would go 10-12,000 miles and I think his Cayenne is similar to the one you mentioned.

On my previous 09 Cayenne S and 2014 Panamera 4S the oil change intervals were every 10,000 miles as well. In the three years I had it, I had only one issue arise with the Cayenne, a HPFP failure (luckily I was already on the way to the dealer). No oil issues. The Panamera on the other hand drank two quarts of oil from 10,000 to 20,000 miles.

It's definitely possible that Cayenne was very thirsty and only needed to be switched at 15K, but it's also possible the owner was neglectful in maintaining it. I'd probably pass on it anyway though just because I don't want the possibility of a neglectful owner to hurt me down the line.
