They even trace the origins of the Peppervagen back to the ducktailed 78 911SC safari rally car! So, in other words, this whole thing can be blamed on the SCWDP!!!!!! Muhahahahahhahahah .....

A nice image from the archives, Curt. The SCWDP thanks you!

What a lot of hot air for nothing.
The Cayenne is not yet on the showroom floors. When it comes, the local P-dealer will invite me to look at it, and possibly drive it too. I'll let you know then what I think about it.
Mrs. Z will probably want one. She usually gets what she wants.

If Cayenne sales fill the coffers with cash (as they will no doubt do), then maybe we'll get to see more than GT Porsches at the races.
Time marches on.

I have mixed feelings about this. Part of me says it's just a car (or vehicle, or whatever it is). Part of me thinks the whole thing is kind of sick.

"Register to discover the heritage that made Cayenne inevitable"?

Doesn't that sound like something that would come from the former Soviet Union's People's Committee To Promote New Things if it merged with a Madison Avenue ad firm? And then to sell the thing by invoking the memory of Porsche's off road rally cars is a perversion of Porsche's racing heritage.

It wouldn't be so bad if they called it something better than "Cayene" and didn't put so much effort into pushing it down our throats. It will probably be a well designed and enginered vehicle that has a lot going for it, considering what it was designed for. They may even be able to make it the first SUV that benefited from improvements developed on the race track. (Does Porsche have a racing program? Oops, wrong rant for the post.) But I agree that if the Cayene was so good, there wouldn't be so much hype over it. Porsche would just do a breif campaign to make it visible, a little brand enhancement tie-ins with the new Carrera, open it up to the reviewers and take the orders as they rolled in.

Oh, well. As I said, it's just a car. Or truck, or whatever.

let's face it........some 356'ers still hate the 911. some 911'ers hate the 914. some 914'ers hate the boxster. some 911'ers hate the 996, and on and on. unfortunately, it sounds like most ALL of the above hate the cayenne. its tough to be the blacksheep of the family.

hopefully, the more SUV's they sell, the more porsche will fund the further development of the product line. if that happens, perhaps there will be a new generations of even better porsche's.

i suppose it is possible that porsche could drop all lines BUT the SUV. if they do, i'll trash talk them but i'll still love the ones i own and drive.

god bless america.

If the Cayenne is a smashing success, logic dictates that Porsche will then develop another SUV. Maybe a larger version to go head-to-head with the Suburban and Excursion. Maybe a smaller entry-level version too. Just think, 2 or 3 Porsche SUVs to choose from 5 years from now! -- Curt

Think I'd rather have a kubelwagon or or the anphib brother, or maybe a C4.

But I suppose it would be ok if they would make a new prototype racer, but I won't hold my breath!

Ahh to remember the good old days of Daytona and Sebring and the 80's.
