Possible to use a boxster transaxle in 911 - reverse ring and pinion?
Hello everyone I hope I’m posting this in the correct category? First time I posted on here, usually use facebook.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to use a boxster gearbox / transaxle in the back of a 911? Ok so got this crazy project where I bough a 1795 911 rolling chassis. I’m looking for possibilities of a custom restomod. First thing is I thought about using a boxster engine in the back. These are now nice and cheap, a lot cheaper than a 996 motor. Original air cooled motors are crazy money today and all seem to need a rebuild. Magnesium case, which was supposed to come with this car could be even worse when you factor in the case maybe warped. 5 speed Boxster transaxles are very cheap here in the UK and should fit the tunnel without modification. Is it possible that a Subaru reverse ring and pinion would fit inside the bioxster trans? Subaru gears make a reverse ring and pinion. I know the 996 box would be good but would need to modify the tunnel. Anyone got any ideas ? |
That’s an interesting idea.
Don’t Boxster / 996+ Porsches use the standard FWD VW engine bolt pattern? The VW R32 V6 is a freaking fantastic motor, super light, compact and like 265 hp bone stock. I think the Boxster uses a cable shift so it be pretty easy to route the cables and use a Boxster gear shift. You’ll need a hydraulic clutch pedal also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
