Hey there! I have a slantnose as well, and I'd love to go from my (I think RX7 based?) headlights to this more OEM style. Did you use 914/944 headlights for the core of this? Thansk!

Yan2947 11-30-2022 05:30 PM

I think there were just two versions of the headlights for the slant nose. I am talking about the aftermarket slant nose and both of them use the RX motors in the headlight. Some designs had the round headlights and somehow the rectangular ones. I also prefer the round ones but you have to have the correct matching fenders for them because I believe they were slightly different.

progress

A little progress. Motor and Tranny are together.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1671125558.JPG

Not gonna lie, jealous! Was hoping to have my engine/tranny in time for the holidays to focus on the build... but the life and wife decided otherwise. Looking good!

Yan2947 12-16-2022 03:39 AM

I moved ahead with the motor since it is just sitting. Hoping the car comes back with the body done one of these days...

Ryan_Cunningham 12-16-2022 03:35 PM

I need to swap from an SBC to an LS1.

Looking great.

Yan2947 12-16-2022 04:05 PM

Ryan, do you already have an EFI on the SBC?

Ryan_Cunningham 12-19-2022 12:36 PM

I don't - It's carbureted.

Yan2947 12-19-2022 02:22 PM

That might be a good and easy change instead of a complete swap..

I've considered it but I'd like to get a powerplant that I can comfortably rev to near 7,000. Sounds like that'd be difficult and not overly reliable in an SBC.

Not something I'm going to undertake now, but once I get another fun toy in the stable I'm thinking of dismantling and rebuilding my 1972 to a higher level of finish.

Looking incredible. Like social media, browsing these threads make me see the flaws in my cars. Haha!

ItzaMe 02-21-2024 03:16 PM

I saw Rick posting updates on this car so it's cool to know where the build thread lives!!

This thing is rad!! Can't wait to see it come together!

Yan2947 05-11-2025 12:31 PM

It’s been a while. I have been working on the car for a couple months after getting it back about a year ago. The wiring on this car was fire damaged so I had to remove quite a bit and it’s starting to look like it’s coming together. My buddy Charlie has been helping me with the roof. I got a sunroof-delete roof from someone in the Hudson Valley and getting ready to put it on. After that, we are going to adjust the right quarter panel by moving it forward 1/2 an inch and probably have to cut some new panels but it is fixable. Hoping the brand new turbo rockers from Pelican line up and that the rear quarters will align with some tweaking to the rear quarter extensions. My LS7 427/570 awaits…

Has anyone run a 1/2" fuel line for their engine swap? The LS 7 series motors are recommended to have 1/2 " fuel lines. Anyone put in 1/2" lines?

Roof re-do

Today we finished cutting the roof off. Sometimes you have to do things the second time to get it right. Sometimes you have to do it yourself or with friends who I wish I had done this originally.

Carbon fiber roof?

Cobalt964ruf 06-25-2025 02:27 AM

Trailing arms look good. Did you wire wheel them or chemical clean them?

Yan2947 06-25-2025 04:10 AM

Just wire wheel.

Long day working on the fuel lines and then putting the front suspension and steering rack back on, followed by the gas tank. Those fuel lines are a pain in the butt to install, and there is no room for error. Last week I painted the front trunk area to clean it up a little.

Wiring

Spent a good part of last couple weeks on wiring and finishing up all the burnt wires and making all the connections. I have a pretty good grasp on everything now I was hoping someone could help me out with this one last harness that I have a feeling I’m going to need as opposed to removing it. If I need it, I might just put a connection on it and then run it to where I need it anyone else tackle it is a photo of the eight wire harness that I originally cut from the other portion of the harness, I believe, probably went to the computer of the original car. here are the photos, one describing the harness, but perhaps someone could give me it in Laymans terms.

Getting ready to test Fit the motor maybe next week so I finally got it off It’s GM wooden Crate. Don’t know if anyone knows what alternator did you purchase for your LS? How much amperage did you decide to go with if you know and if you have your model number for your alternator that would be great thanks! Also, which oil pan did you get? My 89 has the flat one this one’s too big I think.

I did a little test fit of the engine and tranny today. Want to see where all my wiring will lay out.

Have been working on the wiring for quite a while and finished installing a bulkhead connector from maven Performance. I am able to put the main ECU and the LS7’s fuse box on the floor behind the driver seat. This way I really keep the engine day much less cluttered.

Front hood option for front radiator

What do you think of this option if I decide to put a radiator upfront? Similar venting that a GT3 RS might have. I would have to get rid of my gas tank and have the radiator flow up over the hood instead of underneath the car. Just a thought.
