I believe someone has done this for a track car using an m96 turbo variant. Plumbing for liquid cooling is no big deal. I would assume the best place to start would be determining the dimensional differences between the m96/7 engine cradle and the SC engine bay and mounting locations. The other involved task would probably be the wiring harness and making sure the M96 ecu isn't having a stroke.

this car was a frankenstein conversion. 78 tub that had metal wide body / slant nose and stuffed a modified 930 motor in it.
sold the motor after dismantling and figuring out how much it would cost in parts and machine work as well as having a shop split the case and rebuild bottom end. so shifted toward a LS conversion. considered a NA aircooled but after looking at the prices of these motors today still leaning toward LS. but got to thinking if a Porsche WC flat 6 could work. but suspect it would only work if I could mate that to a 915. long time to consider, just getting ready to send tub on rotisserie to shop for paint.

Im sure it can be done. If there isn't a premade solution, I would ask kennedy engineering.

Porsche M96 and M97 IMS Bearings on Bring the M96 and M97 and used in the 986 Boxster and 996 911, as well as early Note that while the Turbo, GT2, and GT3 model engines use the M96 and A late model VW camper monster motor and central air conversion.

yea but the engine IMS could be checked and then replaced if good. so not a problem.... but will it work? still wonder if the WC engines are too long. A lot of time to consider, about to send tub to paint.

It would work with an adaptor plate, or a correct trans. However a Subaru EZ30 is a much better choice. Subaru is a smaller, lighter, more compact and MUCH MUCH more reliable engine. The Subaru design is heavily based on the rock solid Mezger engine, but Porsche M96 basically throws that design away and introduce so many problems like bore scoring lokasil cylinders, ims issues, etc.. I’m going with a built NA Subaru 2.5 in my 912 swap because the weight is comparable to a VW flat-4, so preserves the lightness and handling of the 912, and smaller so I can run hidden radiators under the headlights. Andy is so right with the bore score issue, a roll of the dice in transplanting a decent running M96 in the back. But...I always see the rebuild process as a positive process because - upgrades!!!
