upgrade type 4 heads to 914 ??

after having a valve seat leave it's home for the second time, i'm wondering if changing to 914 heads will buy me anything in terms of reliability. vehicle '73 pop-top bus. bone stock. first set of heads (unknown rebuilder) lasted about 7500 miles of normal driving. ie; head temps ~250-300. second rebuild (rimco) lasted ~ 12K. no external oil cooler. will 914 heads bolt up & would i gain anything by doing so ? any other suggestions ? im all ears ! thanks in advance.
best
jerry

914 heads are type 4, except the 2.0L ones which are different.

the valve seat problem exists on all stock type 4 heads, it is easily fixed at any reputable head company

the bus is quite a heavy vehicle, which leads to early death in these motors, however 12k is way too premature for your engine to be going.

1.8L type 4 heads have the largest valves anf flows most out of all the type 4's except for the 2.0L 914 heads, and most people will tell you they are the best place to start if you're having your heads modded.

The problem you have is simple to cure.......and chances are that the engine is running too hot and promoting the issue.

All TIV heads are Type 4......even the Porsche 2.0 heads are still TIV....I have been driving TIV powered vehicles since the day I got a drivers license, and I HAVE NEVER DROPPED A SINGLE SEAT! These cars are all I own.

ugggh, atleast its a 1949! Could not find a Deutz Allis, so the old Ford has to work!

my dad had a '48 mercury tractor last I heard it was still running

Gotta find a porsche tractor (saw a pic of on in VWT a couple months ago) then you can say you're completly aircooled and completly german to boot.
