1988 Carrera LS Conversion
Just received Renegade Hyrid's installation instructions and there was no info on installing the front radiator install/gas tank install/ plumbing. Is there a good thread available on this forum showing pictures/ instructions that would help with my conversion project? Please advise and thanks in advance for your input!

i checked around for any threads here on our forums but found nothing detailed.

About to pick up an 87 that I am doing a conversion on, using RH kit and a crate E-Rod LS3... to comply with CA emissions.
One question that I haven't found in my research is what are people doing for the electronic throttle pedal. Did an LS swap on a 76 scout last year and worked with Anything Scout and their kit was perfect.... What are you doing for throttle? I'll be swinging by RH on my return trip from picking up my 87, so I will be full of questions w the team there. Also, just email them. I've been chatting with them for the last couple of weeks as I dive into my build sheet. |
Almost ordinary,
I have asked RH the same question regarding the pedal. They are great with answering questions. They advised: With you using a LS7 crate engine I would recommend going with a floor mounted pedal setup but if you wanted to use the "Hinge" style accelerator pedal it can be done. With the floor mounted pedal setup we can provide the pedal, the bracket, and the harness extension for it as well. Still confused … |
Thanks for the response Yan.
With the scout I built last year that response makes sense. There is a slight learning curve when it comes to LS lingo and the swap. I had to take a crash course in Southern Hospitality on the forums and calls I had in the scout world. The pedal, being electronic, you get an actual floor mounted pedal in the crate package... The Hinge style is what is on some models of 911. With the stock 911 pedal you can add a resistance switch (similar to scouts) that just measures throttle/pedal %.... I would advise against it. With the floor pedal setup, you are using the entire crate "kit" and sounds like they have an in house solution for that... which I will be going with. Side note: Check smog for NYC re: swaps. I used to live there for 13yrs and had some issues w my classic range rover. The LS I did the swap for was old enough to skirt emissions. I am doing an LS3 E-Rod conversion here in California to be CARB/Smog compliant. |
My 89 LS1 just uses the stock pedal system so yup this is all new. No NY smog test on my 89 or the 86. I think it’s a 25 year thing or 20 year thing…

I do miss living in NYC though. Had a few fun british trucks there that would have been farm vehicles in California. Picking my 87 up next week, making a fun cross country trip w my best friend out of it. Hope to start my build thread soon! |
I got a response back from renegade guarding the pedal set up:
I believe I had gotten back to you on this email but it looks like I didn’t for some reason. The factory DBW Pedal that is included in a brand-new GM Performance Control Package is a Hinge style pedal setup. With you having an older 911 chassis the Hinge style mount can be used and made to work but you just have to make a bracket setup to mount it up high enough but then of course setting the pedal in the correct location of where you want it in relation to the rest of the pedals. If you wanted to go with a floor mounted pedal setup, we do have that setup in stock and just need to finish the harness setup if that is something you would like to move too. Just let me know and thank you again. Thanks, |
hmm interesting. I was hoping to stop by there shop next week on my way to Nebraska to snag my roller, but they're closed on the weekend.
Having done an LS swap, it's nice to use the stock pedal, but with the 911 foot pedals could be tricky with the space. Let me know how you proceed. I'm likely going to take a trip out to their shop once I get back from Vacation in late October to check some of their builds out in person. |
With my 89 911 and the LS1 the regular pedals are great.

Not the 89. The 86 will be with the ls7.

Ahh gotcha, I will be going w an LS3 crate motor and will be drive by wire. Def takes some getting used to. After swapping my buddy's scout last summer cable vs DBW took a bit to get used to the sensitivity.
