996 Transaxle LS Conversion Questions 1988 Carrera
I just started my conversion using a 996 Six speed transaxle which requires modifying the rear tunnel to accommodate the longer 996 trans( Renegade Hybrid conversion). I'm asking those of you on this forum that have installed a 996 trans in an air cooled chassis for a little assistance (pictures) on how they modified their rear tunnel! Thanks in advance for your response!!!

I’ll caveat that my project has a G96.50, so may be dimensionally different. However, I had to cut the entire center section of the torsion tube out.
You’ll also want to weld in additional reinforcement but I think you’ll have to also go to coilover suspension. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1749515364.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1749515364.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1749515364.jpg |

Thanks Ryan for pictures....amazing structureral roll bars, etc. It appears that your trans extends quite a bit farther into tunnel than my 996 trans which is a little less than 2.5" based on preliminary measurement!

Ya the regular g96 is shorter than our gearboxes Ryan.

yes, g96, t i modeled that support using 3d scanner, a g96 and a g97.50 also.

Ryan’s is a g96.50 turbo box and mine is a g96.88 gt2 box. They are longer.
