68 912 engine into a Ghia

Hi,
Anyone got any info on putting a 68 912 into a Ghia? There is a lot of info on the 914 or the 912e engine( I know that they are the same ). I would like to know; What size clutch. Should the gears in the tranny be changed. How did you mount the engine bar ,etc. Any and all info is appreciated
Thanks, BT.

The 912 engine should bolt up directly to the VW transmission, you will need to get shorter studs on the 912 engine case, you can use the studs off of a VW case. The clutch should be the same but if not you will need to get the one with the ring over the fingers. And you shouldn't need the cross bar that supports the engine in the 912. I actually put a Ghia engine into my 912 so I'm working kind of backwards on this info. I hope this works for you I'm not 100% plosive though. But if you have any questions e-mail me.

Thanks for your reply. I was not sure about the cross bar, it seems like over-kill. I found a running 912 that I am converting to a 911 and I need to do something with the 912 engine (well I don't have to but I can't stop myself) I found all of this stuff while I'm in the middle of customising my Ghia. I was getting parts together for a VW rebuild and this is a easier way. I sure I'll just slap it in and make it work but I wanted some input before I got started.
Thanks, BT

How did it go? Becuase Right now I'm searching the market for a 912 or 912e to stick my 200hp VW motor in.

Ryan
The 1600 is working ok for now. It's good to have the car on the road, but i am planing to do a re-build and making it a 1914. The hardest part was making the support for the engine. I needed to get longer lower case studs to fit through the bell housing (went to local Porsche shop and got 912 case studs). The clutch was the same as a works fine (but i heard that some trannys need the clutch with out the ring on the fingers), and the starter teeth match up fine with the fly wheel.
The 912e might have a 915 tranny that is a bit diffrent from the earlier (66-69 912s) 901 trannys. I don't know how the smog laws are out of state but i know here in Ca a ('76) 912e is not exempt. I don't think your 200hp type I would pass = )

good luck, sean
