Yes, it doesn't look it from the angles in the pic but there is loads of room.

Not true about the notchback being exclusively Canadian. Some were imported earlier than 1965. I remember seeing a brand new 1964 at a dealer. Also explained in an exerpt from a googled page

from my original post:

The notchbacks were never directly imported into the US, only into Canada.

...and the 1500 Sedan (Notchback) was never officially imported to the U.S. ....VW did send the 1500 to Canada early on. Many of the Notchback sedans that can be found in the U.S. today made their way in through Canada
Isn't that the same thing I stated just in more words??? except of course for Wally Izumi, he must be some special guy to get a car from a dealer that was never sold at a dealer.

Enough of the chitchat; last tech update was 2 years ago!

How's the project going, or have you bailed on it?

The project was put on hold while we sold and bought a home. I've also had 2 other Notchbacks I've been wrenching on in that time. It is however back in the garage, motor and trans mounted, and I have been working on a shift rod, and new airflow into the engine bay. Here's a couple pics, looks rough as hell with all the different colors of paint and raw steel but when I pull the motor out, I'll be able to finish the welding and put some primer in there.

Try go to www.germanlook.com, will have something of use to you, especially with respect to mounting Porsche tranny/shifter

Pretty sure rear trailing arms (and brakes) off 944 will fit on there, cast aluminum rather than stamped steel, as I recall. Try go to superbeetles.com and look around, should be able to get some info on that site too.
