Polished Case

I'm putting a 914 1.7L into my bug, being that this is going to be a show car and weekend runner, I'm taking my time and doing it right.
I've already started polishing the case, to a liquidy smooth shine, but was wondering, does anyone know if this will cause any adverse heat problems?
I won't be polishing the entire engine, just the bottom and front, beacuse they'll be the only surfaces seen once its been converted to upright cooling.

just a thought on this.

you have a lot of cooling power with that upright setup. the fan (if you use the porsche type, was meant to cool a flat six, so it should be ample for a t4 application, I don't think that polishing your case would hinder cooling very much.

does the shroud have flaps? I know that you mentioned you could use a SB fan or something, but then where do you mount the alternator?

I'll be using the Oregon Performance Dtm Kit, which is more like a standard bug upright kit, except it off sets the air being directed to one bank of cylinders, since a stock VW cooling unit would miss one cylinder completly because of the differences in the engine.

OH ya the alternator stand comes with the kit also, it bolts onto the block so the alternator will sit in approximately the same place as a type1 engine's would.

this is the Oregon Performance parts site, they onlt seel parts for newer watercooled stuff, but they manufacture a type4/914 upright cooling kit as well.
