I have one if you need it. '75 side shift,
unknown internal condition, so cheap+shipping. I can also send you the clutch/pp assy if you want it. |

What is it out of? I'm told a 911 tranny can be swapped in with a lot less messing around than a 914, but if someone knows how to modify a 914 tranny to work in a bug, I'd be interested to hear.

it is from a 914, I am asking for $40 as I am unaware of the internal condidtion, and I really don't need it anymore.
I think the problem that you will run into is with the linkage. If I were you I'd get into contact with somebody that sets up cable shifters for rails to see if it can be done. I've seen setups with the older 914 trans, but not with the 73 up. |

Sure I'll take it, if I install the thing and it dosn't work , I'll just have to find another one, I want the 5 speed tranny anyway, I'm sure I can figure out how to adapt it.

Check out Keith Seume's VW Custom Handbook. It has a small bit including some color pictures on the conversion. Doesn't look fun to do, but the end result would be VERY nice. The most work involves fabricating the front mount and welding in the new shifter mount in the tunnel. The book also talks about the bolt-on-ability of 944 rear trailing arms to IRS pans. Now that I think about it, the book might be called VW Performance Handbook. Try your local Borders.
