Has anyone considered the Porsche 915 trans?
I hear allot about the drawbacks of using the 901 trans in a T4 engine conversion in a bug...what about the 915, which was Porsche's answer to some of the frailties of the 901?
This was not used in the 914, so no diff-flipping need be considered. It was used in 911s w/ HP ratings going from 130DIN up to 210+DIN HP, this means it should easily handle your T4 powerplant. ...and if you're thinking about costs, well...if you're thinking about a 901 you are already thinking expensive mods or rebuilds since we are no longer in VW land with these Porsche gearboxes. Well, is this way left field, or does anyone got anything on this already? Doug ***Remember to remove "spam" to reply*** |

The 901 is a better choice for beetle conversions. The advantage of the 915 are more ratio choices in stock and aftermarket form, and more chance of finding a used LSD for a decent price. The 915 is much wider in the front requiring more clearance to fit into the beetle chassis. Stick to the 901 is the advice I received from www.tgfab.com and he has installed both types into beetles.
