912 oil cooler on vw type 1/2 engine
Has anyone successfully used a porsche 912 oil cooler on a vw type 1/2 engine?
i understand the 912 cooler is a better cooler than stock vw doghouse cooler. i would be using the 912 cooler on a new 2027 cc engine going in my '69 westphalia camper bus--want it to run COOL. does the 912 cooler bolt up correctly, or do you need an adapter? any help appreciated cheers..... |

If I recall correctly, a few guys experimented with using the 356 cooler in the earlier VW's, but found that the added height restricted the cooling air to #3 & #4.
The VW doghouse is a very well thought-out design, dividing the cooling air up .... some to the oil cooler, the majority to the heads. The hot ticket for upgrading the oil cooler is to squeeze in the Type IV version. This is probably a better upgrade than the 912 cooler, due to the shape. |
