bergmann 911 fan shroud

I'm interested in getting ideas/input/opinions on installing a Bergmann 911 fan shroud on a VW motor. Also if you bought/did the installation yourself and who you aquired it from.

Hi,

I have never install a Bergrmann 911 style kit.
FYI : This kits is 911 "style" as the alt/fan assembly is not a Porsche part but a copy of them.
I have bought a 911 kit from Mike Sharp of Sharpbuilt Australia and is the best by far and uses only genuine 911 alt/fan.Also the well known in the US "MASSIVE TYPE IV" Jake Raby using Mikes Sharp kits instead of a DTM (if a customer reuires that).

Good luck

I would consult Jake Raby first. He may tell you that a 911 kit will provide too much cooling air. Bergman's stuff is geared to appeal to the beginner mechanic. I wouldn't touch anything offered by Bernie Bergman. Too many horror stories, including a kid I knew well.

I have not used a single 911 fan system in 3 years since my exhaustive testing that proved they overcool cylinders 1&3 and fry cylinders 2&4. While the Sharp system was the best in those tests, its not saying much at all... They also rob a solid 20-30HP, the least I saw was 19HP and the most a whopping 39HP!

If a customer requires a 911 shroud, I tell them to find someone that doesn't know the truth or doesnt't care- because I refuse to use them.

Welcome Jake !!!

So, can you prove that the DTM is more efficient than any 911 style kit ? I think you can BUT the look of the 911 fan is awesome and cannot be duplicated with anything.

Rgds,
Jim
