Performance for pennies?
Morning from Texas?
Last night I was chatting with a guy from England telling him what I wanted from my Beetle project? He told me how to get the every thing I wanted out of my project with out the $$$$$$$? He bought a Pontiac Fiero and stripped it down to the frame it's unibody I know but it strips better that a 914! Then you shorten the frame up front 5" to 6" and the wheelbase is then that of a Beetle! With a little body mods you have a V6 Beetle with 4 wheel power disc brakes, power steering, and a 5 speed trans! with a output of as little as $500 to $1000 for the whole Fiero! Thats less that the cost of a good 914 motor? The cool thing is the V6 is a 2.1 to a 2.8 stock and they make so many aftermarket performance parts for the Fiero! What do you think? porschedub@live.com |
wouldn't it be easier to just mount the V6 on the VW pan? I have seen bugs with midmounted V-8's before, on a vw pan, built a little subframe for drivetrain, also had a full cage, definitely not a sleeper
Power steering would be difficult to mount on a bug, and pretty much pointless. Disc brakes can be had for all four corners already. |
Yes thats true! But then you don't get get the 4 wheel power disc brakes, power steering, 5 Speed or automatic Trans, Etc?
