Kennedy 200mm flywheel and clutch assy. for 2.0 to 2.7 911 engine to VW transmission.
I used this in my 70 Bus with a 2.4 911 engine and stock VW Bus transmission for about 20,000 miles. My bus was hit and the insurance company totaled my bus.
I now have a Vanagon with a 3.0 911 engine and 915 5 speed transmission.
Flywheel and pressure plate in very good condition, I recommend replacing the clutch disc.

How does this work? Does the flywheel just bolt to an otherwise stock 911 engine and allow a VW clutch to be used? That should take car of the input splines, but does the VW trans just bolt to the Porsche engine without any other modifications? What VW transmissions will work? Bus, Bug, or other?

It is a VW 200mm flywheel with a modified center. It bolts on the 911 just like any stock early 911 flywheel. The clutch is a high performance Kennedy and uses the stock VW TO bearing.
The 911 engine with this flywhhel and clutch assy. will work on any VW transmission that uses a 200mm flywheel. I used it with a 71 Type II VW transmission. You must use a self supporting starter (VW automatic & early 911 are the same SR21X Bosch starter).

Will the type 1 transaxle just bolt to the early 911 engine then? Or does it need an adapter plate?

Yes, as long as the transmission is for a 200mm flywheel. No adaptor plate is needed.

Hmm.. I'll have to think some more about this. gaining 1.1 litres and 2 cylinders could be fun. Do you know how big the motor is (inches)? I'd be putting it into a Ghia, so the length (and to a lesser extent the width and height) might be close.

The engine compartment is the same that my 70 Bus had. Only minor modification is needed to fit. It would not work in a Bug because of the deck lid. Hope this helps.

Hi Christopher,

My 70 bus with the 2.4 I had a stock VW 4 speed gearbox and I got 15 mph average or around 17 mph on the hiway.
My Vanagon with the 3.0 I originally had a 3 speed VW automatic and the best I ever got was 11.5 mph. Now with the Porsche 915 5 speed I get around 16-17 average. I haven't taken it on a hiway trip yet since I put in the 5 speed. I'm guessing I'll get 18-19 mph. Remember it has the aerodynamics of a brick.
