yep im a neewbie :( not sure how u guyz will accept me :confused: but here goes im looking for ideas on a engine and tranny advise plz id like to stay air cooled and ive read a few things on a porsche 5 speed trans but i have no idea what is good or bad i was thinking of so big bore vw motors but i hear they dont live very long and req lots of tinking my car will be a used to go off road just to have fun nothing too rough but it would be nice to have some speed on the reg road its very light frame org tunnel and motor mounts the rest of the pans been tubed so plz let me know what u think ... thanks guyz

My guess is that you'd be happy with a 914 2.0L engine and a trans from a mid to late 70's bus. Not a five speed but do you really want to be driving at fifth gear speeds in a Manx? The gearing of the bus trans is great if you're running larger off road tires. The 914 2.0L is a much stouter engine than that of it's type I brethren. Not hard to get 100+ hp from either.

p.s. If you're into wheelies, you could always put in a 3.6 and 915.
