3.6 conversion using gt3 case

I recently hand-grenaded the 3.6 that was in my 84 911. It was a sad day. The motor utilized a 3.6 964 case. In conversation and searching for a new case, a suggestion has arisen suggesting, rather then a 964 or 993 case to use a more recent GT3 3.6 case as you can find such examples with low mileage (hours) and that virtually any case you can find from a 964 or 933 will have a story.

It was suggested that the conversion will require a few hundred dollars worth of machine work in order to make things work.

Has anyone done this or know of anyone who has and thoughts regarding this?

Thanks in advance.

BUMP for interesting question. How far do we take it thoug, GT3 crank and rods, how about the oil pump when your in there?

Did you ever uncover any details on this?

I thought I read about someone doing something similar in GB magazine. I'll have to look back for that when we wait from an engine builder response. Now saying that, maybe this would get A LOT more attention from knowledgeable people if posted in "engine building" forum as I'm sure many Porsche builders would never consider an engine conversion.
