944 engine swap
Hey guys I am brand new to this forum but have been a long on Vortex a long time so rest assured I have searched and not found to much information on this.
I have a 12v VR6T I have built broken in dyno tuned and then parted out my car for fear of my life : ) 424whp and 450wtq in a fwd MK II jetta is to much. That being said I kept my motor (sold everything else). I have seen one person doing a vr6 swap into a 944 and it seemed like a very snug fit and with the size of my turbo maybe not an option. I am also in the process of building a 1.8t stroker (2.0). I think this would be a great swap intow a 944. I do love the S2 body but I am looking for a little direction here form someone who has tried this or knows how difficult it will be to make fit. Is it simply a engine adapter plate to the torque tube and fabing up some engine mounts? Not sure if a torque tube makes this an easier or harder idea? I am guessing the 1.8t is the better motor to drop in? Here is a few pics and a dyno run of my VRT purely for your entertainment. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/...t/d51e0f0b.jpg this was after the initial build http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js11VJ1stbk dyno vid |
The oilpan/pickup on the vr6 interferes with the 944 cross member. You would need a custom pick up system or dry sump, to space down your cross member 1.5-3", and a custom intake manifold/mk4 flat end valve cover to gain hood clearance.

Really its just gonna come down to how bad you want it to happen, yes there are issues off brand swapping anything, but with patience , research, and a little imagination its all do able... Side note I have a close friend with a mkII jetta vrt at 455 hp.... I agree fwd over 300 hp is terrifying, hopefully you decide to make it happen, there is a guy with a 993 vrt build here too, so don't forget there are plenty of roller.911s out there to build cheap too.

I have a 944 that needs an engine and a brand new Schimmel 3.0L... I think the change in 944 suspension geometry would take some of the fun out if it. Looking at an AEB 20v instead... cheap as any engine to make 500hp.
