3.4 V6 in a 1974 911 Targa?

Hi all!

First post on the forum and I guess some people will hate on me for asking this.

Recently I bought a 1974 911 Targa without trans and engine and interior quite cheap.

It´s a solid car without major rust issues and it has bigger brakes uprated front.
They car has also had glasfibre fenders installed and SC fenders rear so it is in no way a original car. It has not been driven since 1993.

I was looking at installing a LS1 engine in the car and even if that would be great,
I´m trying to build the car cheap for now.

This morning sitting by the table having coffe I was looking out of my window seeing that piece of crap Chevrolet Trans Sport 2001 3.4 V6 on the driveway with a broken gearbox that I bought from my boss in a vauge moment for 300$! last summer.

The engine runs great and has about 170000km on it and has always been properly serviced.

Just got me thinking: What about that engine then?? It´s a 180hp 285nm engine at in weighs in at around 170kg.
No problems with the Swedish MOT guys with the registration with that engine also.

I was going to take the car to the scrap yard and have them kill it but now I´m looking into the possibility to use this engine in the 911.

Won´t cost me a dime to aquire the engine and I know that the engine is sound.

Looked at Kennedy Eng. and they have adapters that will do the job.
Engine mounts and all other small parts will be made in my garage.
As some of you know we Swedes have a long tradition of building cars and bikes and we take great pride in doing things by our own.

I know that an LS1 engine is a more powerful engine but it will set me back at least 5000$ to get me a used engine here in Sweden and there might be problems with MOT and registration since it is so powerful.

So... what do you guys think?

Anybody that know about a car that has already done this conversion or have any ideas or tips?

Greatful for any feedback!

Kind regards!
Johan, Sweden

V6 swap

I think that Renegade Hybrids in Las Vegas, Nevada used to do V6 swaps, but has pretty much gone to the V8 route instead. You might check with them to see the feasibility and costs involved. If you do the V6 swap, you might still want to use radiators and other cooling components that would be usable if you do go to a V8 some time in the future.

Anything can be done, it just depends how much you want to spend.
