Cruise Control...

After a lot of work and expense I now have a working cruise control on my 996/LS3 conversion. As far as I know no one has done this, I know some don't care, but I wanted the factory options to work, plus it's a great feature for long trips and those pesky 40 MPH speed traps.

Not on the subject, but at the same time I was dealing with the C/C I revamped my dash for a double din GPS/Nav, back up camera, i-Pod, larger amp. I moved the heated seat switches to 2 vacant spots on the horse shoe panel. I sectioned the storage cubby to make everything fit. I only use the cubby for my cell phone so it works nicely for that.

Really nice work Mitch! What all was involved in getting the cruise to work?

Did you see this?

996 - blown motor

This is the kind of thing that is out there for donors. Really nice one for cheap. The more that you sort out the problems, the more this makes sense. This guy had his engine replaced and had the same failure.

Craig, Regarding the cruise control... I'm pretty good with wrenching, fabricating, and some basic electrical, but the cruise control was one of the go to items that needed a lot of expertise. I had a guy who was extremely sharp with auto electrics and computers figure out the logic of the Porsche C/C functions. He took this information and talked to a guy in Arkansas who was building interface modules that would allowed the GM ECU to talk to the Porsche controls. The interface was $500 plus...

It works fairly well, it's a little lumpy at slow speeds, this might have to do with the cam in engine. However Kyle my guru installer said the interface has logic and will in time learn the system and become better. whether that's spin or not, I don't know. At freeway speeds it holds the speed perfectly so I felt it was a success.

In the effort for total factory, Kevin at North Hollywood Speedo disconnected the Porsche solder trace at the circuit board from the C/C icon on the dash and left me with a pigtail that connected to the interface module. So now my dash C/C icon also lights up.

Ok, that's just scary. How long before your 996 becomes self aware!?!?

You've gone above and beyond to really work through the details and make the swap as if the factory put it in.

I'm still waiting on the auto transport guy to pick up my car and deliver it. I can finally get started if and when the car ever shows up.

Craig, it functions just fine, I also need to become a little more a tuned to it's peculiarities. Hey, the factory C/C never was self evident, user friendly anyway. I'm planning a 3,000 mile trip with the car so having the C/C operational will add some comfort to the drive.
