What HP is safe for aircooled engine???

I have heard that anything over 550WHP for aircooler engine will damage the motor, unless you have the flat fan, like the 935 engine? Do any of you guys run that kind of power on track? If so how much power and how long has the engine lasted? The head is the issue from my understanding?

The right people aren't reading this down in the depths of the conversions forum. People in this forum as using non-Porsche engines generally. Put the same question in the 911 Engine Rebuilding Forum and you'll get 20 replies today.

The cost of getting 550 to the wheels will be so high that a flat fan conversion would not be out of line with build costs... yes I know they're crazy expensive. I was looking at trying to turbo charge my 3.6 911, and for the same money I bought a nice 944 turbo and make as much power as my blown 3.6 would have made...and I still have the 911. I wouldn't even think about trying to get that much power reliably out of an old air cooled engine without spending a fortune on it. Probably would be light years ahead of the game if you sold whatever you have and started with a 996 TT. Prices are low right now and they dont have the IMS problems that the wet sump engines have....

I like the route the Singer Porsches have gone, increase the power of the engine a little, but lighten the car significantly.

yes, you can get lot's of power out of the water cooled Porsches. I started this project long time agao (6 years) and finally finished it, as the previous mechanic F**ked me over on the built and i had to redo the entire engine $45K in repair. The engine can make lot's of HP, but it's been detuned down to 600whp now. I'm only running 0.7 bar of boost, where i still have the warrenty on the new engine. Yes, if i only new i had to do this all over again, i would jump on a first model of 997 turbo and built it up
