Regrets on V8 choice???
Any of you guys that have done the V8/LS conversion wish you hadn't?
I am at a cross roads with my project and don't want to do something that I'll possibly regret later down the road. My car is not super valuable or original and never will be again, so that is not an issue.... Let me hear your thoughts please. SmileWavy |
I wouldn't mind hearing this. I'm on the fence as well

subscribed, same boat

Anyone have any actual numbers of track times, 0-60 etc. of stock 911 or 930 vs. a converted car or is it still heresay of "yep, feels faster."?? Dry weights, etc.
|
My 3.0 930 with 915 ran 0-60 in 3.4 and quarter mile in 12.2@117mph
According to g-Tecpro |
I was thinking about it- went 993 3.6 instead - God it's expensive, but not a bastard car. However a v8 would be fast and cheap
|
My LS1 did 12 1/2 seconds the first few runs at Lebanon Valley last summer without any mods to the stock GM crate motor. Zero to 60 is always in the Low 4's and that is just with second and third gear.

Nice. Dry or wet weights?

i have done2 v8 conversions on the same 914, the first was a cast iron 350 sbci drove it that way for about 5 years then decided to swap the sbc for an ls1 the ls1 iss by far the best choice about 11o lbs lighter and modern efi and engine management much better drive ability a bit more work to make the ls1 fit nut very worth ihe work

Just completed mine. I haven't got many miles on it, but I can tell you the answer already.
No. Not even the first bit. Best mod you can do. It doesn't change the character of the car at all. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't driven one. |

I have about 700 miles on my boxster LS swap and it is awesome. Cost more then budgeted, took longer then expected, still not 100%. But if you like fast awesomeness it is hard to beat. Dude. That's a great thread! I had wondered how the Boxster kit looked. |

It is one heck of a tight fit but overall a pretty clean install. Thanks! J |
Not to persuade the V8 conversion, but instead I went the Subaru route. Most don't think of this because not many have done it, and there are no "kits" for it yet. Cost a bit and required a lot of fabrication, but so far I am enjoying every second of it. Cost of motor parts are cheap and abundant, so not concerned about putting a ton of miles on it. I need to weigh it yet but believe it's close to 2000lbs. I don't have any track times on it yet, but will soon. Stock HP is 300.
