Hi Guys

I am across the pond in the UK and have been playing around with my car that I imported from the States last year.

Car as I purchased had cooling problems, which I suspect could be cured by purchasing a Renegade radiator, but as I'm tight and I bought the car to fiddle with, I have plumbed in a dual radiator system up front. The rad I added to the existing one is off a land Rover Discovery V8 and purchased off ebay for $15. It has helped matters but not enough.


Seems to me that the issue is just getting enough cooling air into, and out of, the cooling area in the trunk, so I've come up with this idea !

You're not serious are you about grafting that into the front of a 911?

Why not just use two smaller radiators up front like the Boxster? The wheel wells (area under the wings) is very turbulent from spinning tires.

Well I've decided to go ahead and build a prototype. I'm building the necessary frame work out of timber battening, the idea being that if I don't like the look or if it doesn't improve cooling, I can put it back to standard. I do have a 3.2 engine I can drop in.

Here are pics of the framing of the duct to the radiator before I encase it with ply. I have plumbed into the waterway, from the radiator, the temp sensor that cuts in the electric fan and also an accurate digital thermometer probe.

Sorry to say this and please forgive me to be maybe respecless but this is by far the most ridiculous stuff I have seen in years.

I am just lying on the ground holding my stomach because I am just paralyzed from laughing :-))))))


How can you do this to a 911 giving it the look of a morris minor ?

I have to agree with srupp. It looks awful and won't be an effective area to cool with hot air just swirling around in the backside of the trunk. If you're going to do this, reconsider a different route. The below here has been done several times for cooling and improved handling. This scoop effect in the front hood provides more downforce for better handling. Although if it were my car, I would use an aftermarket hood instead of cutting up the original one.

The air won't just be swirling round in the trunk. Cold air enters the radiators enclosure via the 'ram effect', coming in through the lower air intake (same as the RS type car in your pic) and the new upper intake. Then, having passed through the 2 radiators (one immediately behind the other) the hot air exits through the hole in the trunk where the petrol tank used to be. With a small spoiler underneath the car and to the front of this big petrol tank hole, due to the high speed of the air travelling underneath this part of the car this will be a big negative pressure area and this suction will increase the ram effect of the air flowing through the cooling enclosure. That's what I'm hoping anyway !

LOL, yes, your right. Some other people need to take a chill pill, its only an experiment and I can put the car back to 'original' any time.

So, I went out for test drive number 4, engine fully warmed up beforehand and when I got back I took the ( digital) temperature of the engine. Lo and Behold, it was 140 oF, so now I need to fit an inline thermostat to make sure the engine is UP to temperature on a run !
