915 / 930 gear box to 996??

Hello folks, new to the world of Porsche and this forum.
Has anyone converted / swapped an early 911 to a 996 transmission?
I have a 73 911 (wide body/ slant nose conversion) with a 930 gearbox matted to a SBC that I plan to convert to a 996 gearbox and an LS3 motor. I know that is blasphemous to most Porsche guys and I apologize if you already threw up in your lap. I'm an old school hot rod guy that loves the concept. Looking for any advice on the swap, pics or anything else that may help.
Thank you in advance,
John

The 996/997 box is completely different to the g50/930 style boxes. YES, it can be done and GBox has done the sbc/g96/g97. The GT boxes are very similar and may even use the same clutch pack if you have a lot invested. They are better geared for a powerful SBC but do cost more for entry. The Turbo box can be used as 2wd with great success.

I am installing a Subaru STi engine that was built up to run Pikes Peak into my Super Beetle convertible I have had for 30 years. I have a 930 trans that I now hope is sold that I was going to use in the conversion. After looking at gears for the 930 and the high cost, I went ahead and purchased a 997 GT3 transmission on Rennlist. I obviously am already doing a lot of fabrication work so will modify the rear tunnel for the longer trans. I highly recommend finding a GT3 trans before spending a lot on regearing a 930. If you would like to see the Beetle, it is on Facebook as Psycho Beetle. I am hoping to have more time this winter to build more and update the postings there. My plan is to take it to Rennsport in September.

Gents, thank you for the replies! I'm going with the 996 box. Talked to Travis & Scott at Renegade and they happen to be working on a few similar builds at this moment. They invited me out to take a look so I'll be flying out there on Wednesday to get a look. I will be sure to document my build and post here later.

You're in good hands. The only major thing is you will need a new adapter and flywheel set up because the bolt pattern is different on the G96. Otherwise, it is a super robust gearbox and you'll be upgrading to cable shifting.

It's called the glass gearbox for a reason. All the WRC guys consistently blew them up as soon as the cars started going over 350whp. Take that kind of power and convert it over to 2WD and it's even more precarious.
