1990 964 3.6

Hi everyone, looking for some advice on what to ask for this engine. Here is a quick run down;

The engine was sold to me as a low mileage (very low) long block that raced the One Lap of America and did well. I am not certain of the mileage, as we found some ware on a rocker - I will know more soon as it is getting a reseal and inspection - not a rebuild, by Auguste Lecourt. He was Ludwig Heimraths mechanic for his 934. It has not been run in many years, this is why I am doing the reseal and inspection.

Here is what has been done to tghis point, and I can provide paperwork;

- Heads inspected and rebuilt due to finding some assembly errors and the replacement of one of the heads due to the removal of the ceramics around the valve guide boss.

- New Webcam 993 SS cam.

- plastic 964 intake with 993 injectors.

- It has Raceware head studs and rod bolts.

- It has the early cylinder heads.

- I also have new coils and a used mounting bracket

- 964 ECU with Steve Wong chip that has had the injection scaled back for the 993 injectors. It will need a dyno run.

- 993 flipped flange headers and 993 cat (not sure if I will sell them).

- Single pulley conversion.

- Patrick Motorsports wiring harness conversion

- 964 wiring harness.

- What "may" be an early Patrick Motorsports flywheel and some converted engine sheet metal

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the reply and the Ebay links.

I forgot a few things that I will add to my first post.

- It has Raceware head studs and rod bolts.
- I should have mentioned that it has the early cylinder heads.
- I also have new coils and a used mounting bracket

Yes I am selling it. I will never finish my project if I do not sell it.

I have a "mystery" 3.0 L engine that is for sale locally. 79 large port.

As a side note; I bought this motor thinking it did not need work - it did, and a fair bit of work. You never know what you are buying. I have done everything I can to this motor within reason, and I will provide any and all transparency. I have enjoyed Pelican over the years, I wish to continue to do so.

I did not realize the pain it is to ship anything this valuable to the US from Canada. I live close to the border (near Niagara NY) - I have shipped many parts, and bought many more from the US. I would need a broker to ship it to the US. These are the rules, and I am still trying to determine the costs involved.

Silly question but couldn't you drive it across and sell it? I am sure there is a good reason why you can't I just don't know it.

That is a logical question. Also, it is a logical solution. Unfortunately anything that is valued above $2500 needs a broker. I don't know why.

To further point out the oddity of it - you can drive your car across the border, or use a trailer to tow a car with an engine in it.

I am going to look further into it. Perhaps there is more to learn about the process.

I’ve know someone that had trouble doing the opposite. Trying to drive seats across to Canada. Not sure how strict the US is but my guess is they are not dumb so have your story straight and have an address of what shop you are taking it to state side

If the engine is going to a shop for repairs, there should be no issue with shipping and insurance....

Pmax, I have crossed a border like that in Alaska. When the gravel road ended and the paved road began you were in the US. Also, there was a tiny sign that said it was the border. That was many years ago.

I cross into Canada all the time...been doing it for 25 years. Right around your area too James...Peace Bridge, Queenston and even Rainbow Bridge, but not if I can avoid that mess!

They never check the car or minivan in either direction. Most of the stuff I'm bringing into Canada and not the other way around though, and I'm a US citizen.

They're looking for stuff you're going to sell, not use yourself. An engine in the back of a pickup truck would be obvious to question. A car being towed to, ahem, to Watkins Glen (with your engine in it) to race, not so much.

An engine is tough to smuggle. If I were you, I"d take a ride to the border and talk to the US customs agents there. They're helpful and may save you the cost of a broker.

I thought '78 was the year with the large port?

Have you listed the 3.6 for sale?

Perhaps I am wrong but I thought the 78/79 were large port.

I have not listed it yet as I want to make sure there are not any issues if I sell it in the US. It looks like I will need to use a broker. I will find out more tomorrow.

I do have one person who has contacted me about the engine.

I have figured it out. I will use a broker to do the paperwork, and I will transport it to the US side. A broker is required due to the value of the engine. They consider it a commercial shipment when the value is over a certain amount ($2500).

You can use someone like Fedex Trade Network to broker it for you. I have used them before.
