Value of full set RUF gauges from BTR era overhauld

These were sent to a shop in Hollywood 20 years ago by yours truly. I always planned to use them. They were completely overhauled then. Since, just in my storeroom wrapped in plastic.

Odometer reads now 000000. Speedometer is kph type at 350kph. Just asking, but I know a picture would be in order. Sorry, I will have to dig them out of the box to take a photo if necessary.

I believe RUF charges 500 euros to monogram a gauge, if that helps at all. So they’ll have some premium over a non branded set.

If you are interested in selling would you let me know. Thanks

I've ignored the whore before. I thought it was a good rhyme at the time. Also I did apologize for saying that. This time I am not apologizing.

On my 3.8 motor you said a million ....yen. Others chimed in that it was closer to 20K. You said you were typing and hit submit by accident. Your $8,929 valuation on my motor was way out of the ballpark. Now you have the same pattern I.e. 150,000....yen. You give no reasoning for your assessment on anything whatsoever. Are you trying to boost your post count so you'll be more popular on the forum?

amg463 11-24-2018 05:44 AM

Just sell your parts like a normal person. All these fishing posts are getting old like yourself. If you don't like my valuations then do something about it. List your parts on the parts forum and post whatever price you want.

Gold, Oil, and even Porsche 911 parts are traded globally in USD. What the hell do you know about JPY? Are you a currency trader? Furthermore, this isn't a fishing expedition. This is a market place discussion forum. My parts on my thread aren't for sale. I'm only trying to take inventory on selling perhaps my whole project car vs the sum of some or all of its parts. I believe this forum allows for that?

Finally, you insult my age. You wouldn't be doing that I if you were standing next to me guaranteed. My body is like 20+ years younger. Are you even 20 years old? It shows.

amg463 11-24-2018 06:17 PM

You are in JP, therefore you use Yen. It isn't rocket science. Did you eat your natto everyday to get the body of a 20+ years younger fellow?

911heaven 11-25-2018 01:25 AM

One last apology

I said I wouldn't apologize again, but I will. I'm sorry for being mean. I'll never call you a whore again. Been feeling terrible about it all day, so no hard feelings I hope.

I agree with you that valuation in JPY is not rocket science. However, for all of the forum members who view your posts on my inquisitive threads, it may well be rocket science or a riddle. Every time you post on my thread(s) you dilute them. You are welcome to continue posting your value as a member, and I won't mind, just as long as you do it in USD? Rupees or Rubles would be better than Yen.... as you put it. That is not rocket science either, but it would still dilute my thread or threads. I hope you can respect my questions on the forum as I endeavor to decipher my journey on this particular project of 20 years.

150,000 yen equates to $1,328. That is current exchange rate. I did promise to post photos, which I will do probably tomorrow? Once I do that, other members will have a better idea of the product. A picture paints a thousand words. Should have done it before I know,........just logistics.

I hope to get more opinions later from this group, that is if there are any.

Much obliged,

In the last few years I have purchased one full set and a partial set of Ruf gauges. Lets see the photos and then I think you will get some opinions on price. Lots of variables here.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking, post pics see what it is and assess value.

I also have a set these gauges that I've had since 1990. Came out of wrecked 79 Ruf SC that I bought the totaled. I bought it for the engine and the wheels, the gauges and steering wheel were a bonus.

Just to mention a couple things. Boost gauge baggie had a hole I noticed. Some humid air got in there so a little corrosion on the back upper case. I pulled up the rubber gasket next to corrosion today while taking photos. Metal there is perfect, clean as a new baby's bottom. Corrosion would be easy to clean up.

Also, a couple of dust crumbs rolling around inside speedo glass. Again, could be cleaned out easily I think.

Finally, as said, 20 years overhauled at a shop in Hollywood. I sent them to my college friend who knows places in Porsche Central. He still has his 73S from when we were in college in Costa Mesa. If necessary I can call him and retrieve the name of that shop.

Regards to all, and thanks.

Full set and VDO. Nice. Of course the KPH may limit the market a bit. I would love to have the fuel and Druck gauges but something tells me you don't want to split them up.

You got to wonder how much of this stuff is really out there, not just Ruf parts, but everything. I own three sets of gauges but only one is a full set, two are missing the fuel and druck gauges. I know 2 other people that have full sets sitting in a box. I guess most P car guys don't need the money and know if they sell it they will have a hard time replacing it when they or if they need it.

Sorry Chris,

I can't break up this set. The set is not even for sale (yet). This thread is just to get a value. If I start to break up my project car via all of the components, that will be the day I start doing that. For now it is still a decision I will make fairly soon. So just to be clear, I only hope you or members in the group can value it? If you can do that in all honesty, I would be very greatful

!

Pretty sure the shop that did these would be North Hollywood Speedometer (NHS).

Pretty much the case.. there are parts around but many of us hold on to them for the next planned project. At least that's my plan.. they are already earmarked for a build.

I wouldn't split the set either. They will be worth more as a set.. and I think the question is not what they are worth.. but rather what someone will pay.

They are standard Porsche VDO gauges with the Ruf logo... or Ruf gauges if you will, and there is someone out there that will want them.

GLWTS!

amg463 11-28-2018 06:29 AM

I like the mention of all you guys hoarding the parts for projects still to be done. 9.9 times out of 10 those projects never happen. The wives will sell your parts or throw them away for 1/100th the value you think they are after you are gone.

crb07 11-28-2018 07:14 AM

I have a set of Ruf Guages, Ruf intercooler, 930 brake calipers, and a pair of 9” Fuchs that will be placed in my coffin, burried in a secret location under a false name.
