Auction Results

There a lot of nice 911 and 912 cars at the Arizona Auctions this year. Only starting to look at some of the results but these two caught my eye for selling well below their reserves.

Black 1971 911 T Targa had a reserve of $90,000-110,000 and sold for only $64,400. I looked at the car and it showed ok and looked nice but was not presented very well and definitely did not look like a $100,000 car to me... although with some detailing it certainly could have. Whomever purchased this car could enjoy as is for a long while or do some very minor clean-up and have a very nice looking long nose targa.

1969 PORSCHE 912 OUTLAW 911R TRIBUTE had a reserve of $65,000-$85,000 and sold for 47,040. This car presented very well. Yes, it is technically a 912 but someone had spent a lot of money on a 911 engine, bumpers, sport seats, etc. and all the other goodies to build a nice looking hot rod. I can't help but think that this car on Bring A Trailer would have made $80,000 pretty easily if presented correctly. Someone got a lot fo car for the money here.

I think you mean estimate, not reserve. A reserve is a specific price below which the car is guaranteed not to sell.

BTW, this thread actually belongs in the Porsche Marketplace Discussion forum, rather than the technical forum.

I saw the 69 912 and did not think it was complete at all. I thought the $47K price was OK. They wanted $85K (estimate) but it needed too many little things, that if had been done, might have gotten them closer. JMHO.

Do you have to pay State sales tax on the commission paid when buying at auction. Or, is the tax based just on the car's sale price?

Re: '73 914 2.0

Anybody else impressed with the '73 914 2.0 in Delphi green bringing $58K? (plus buyer's premium). I know it's a 33k mile original, but since when (other than Amelia last year) are 4 cylinder 914's breaking into the $50k plus range?

You pay sales tax on all of it because thatís how much the car cost you.

I thought it probably worked that way. It just seems that you're being taxed on a service, and not a product. In Indiana services are not taxed.

I think youíre taxed on the entire bill of sale price, thus hammer plus commish.

Yes, meant pre-sale estimate not reserve. What I get for typing too early in the morning!

As the previous owner of a Delphi Green Metallic 914 I was keen to look over the car. I thought it presented well, not perfect but pretty well. The ride height looked really tall but perhaps was actually stock for the period, not sure.

The color is so polarizing. When I had mine people loved it or hated it. Some had to have it and eventually I sold it to someone who continued to offer me more and more until I caved. This car at auction seemed to fare similarly, someone had to have it!
