1967 911S Stainless body

Imagine a 67S built with a full stainless steel body.It was driven 93,000 miles by a lucky soul with not one spec of rust.110 lbs.lighter than a stock 911.Cost was about twice of the regular model.Article was on Auto Blog this morning.A total of 3 may have been built.Pretty cool.I would love a trip to the place where all these archives are hidden.Fred

So shiny! That’s super cool. Looks like lead filler in one of the pictures. On the drip rail above the top left portion of the engine lid. Makes me think it was factory commissioned but I suppose not necessarily. Nevertheless, how cool.

2 totaled

No point in looking for the other two examples.I was thinking that would be a great barn find. There are still two 911R cars that have not been found though.Fred

Duplicating one of these ought to be 'easy peazey' for any of the talented Pelicans posting immaculate 'from scratch' builds! ;-)

I think aluminum is easier to work with than stainless.

Yes, 911 decklids, hoods, some 964s even had aluminum fenders.

Here is such a decklid, notice the car is a rusty pile, the decklid is not, sad part is, it's a 911S.

Never heard of them before. I had factory aluminum hood fenders and flairs on my 74 iroc clone. I know the 964 cup cars came with aluminum hoods. I thought the Konrads were wide body 3.8's. AFAIK they didn't leave the factory with those parts. The 3.8's were supplied with kevlar hoods and steel flairs like the TSL's.

I have one in the garage, I will post pictures later. I wondered why when they gave it to me, that so worked to remove the gas flap, after the crew member handed it to me, I figured out why.
